Industrial, Factory & Warehouse Lighting

There are many things to take into consideration with factory lighting, getting it right can be tricky, we have the necessary experience and skills to ensure the correct lighting is fitted, to guarantee safety and efficiency of the factory workers.

If the wrong lighting is installed it can be extremely hazardous.

Appropriate lighting is also required under the health and safety at work act. There must be sufficient light in the workplace to ensure the safety of every worker and there also must be adequate back up lighting in an emergency or power failure. Failure to adhere to these standards can lead to criminal negligence cases.

The lighting in a warehouse is a major influence to the personnel and general workings of the whole place it can have a big impact on the overall efficiency of the warehouse. If it isn’t sufficient it could result in losing money and be potentially hazardous to personnel that work there.

M Kemp Electrical are experts in manufacturing, supplying and installing lighting solutions.

Wrongly specified or positioned warehouse lighting can lead to accidents especially where fork trucks, reach trucks or side loads are used as well as the stressed or fatigued workers. The poor lighting can also represent a significant cost to the business in the form of time of work as a result of the accident or injury, increased absenteeism and reduced staff efficiency and productivity.

Lighting accounts for 41 percent of the overall energy consumption in the running of a warehouse it makes it the single biggest energy cost. Energy efficient lamps, correct lighting specification and lighting controls save money and improve working conditions. By adopting these energy saving principles lighting energy waste can be reduced by up to 70 percent in some cases. M Kemp Electrical have a selection of the best energy efficient lighting sources on the market.

Emergency Lighting

Fire exit sign

In an emergency, the mains power supply can be disrupted. In such situations it is important to have a secondary lighting system ready to guide people as they evacuate the building. Emergency luminaires are required to provide light for three hours, as detailed in BS5266 pt1, 2011. This British Standard also provides information on where luminaires should be sited and the level of illumination they should provide. In addition, exit and safety signs are required as detailed in the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996.

At M Kemp Electrical Testing Ltd we supply a wide range of emergency lights and signage that are fitted with LED fittings. We can also service lighting installations; testing each luminaire for the required three hours annually and one hour testing half way through the year to ensure they will be ready to work if an emergency situation arises as well as provide log books and on site staff training.

Installation

Our hassle-free service includes the installation of your new LED lighting system, done by our expert and fully qualified electricians.

Benefits

  • Reduce lighting bills by up to 90%
LED’s are 20 times more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs and they only need a fraction of the energy to produce the same amount of light.

  • Get a fast return of investment
The savings that you’ll make from your electricity bill will quickly cover the initial investment with 2.5 years being the average pay back period, and after that you’ll continue saving every year.

  • Less Environmental Impact
LEDs have at least 4 times less environmental impact through the course of their life-cycle than alternative lamp technology.

  • Incredibly energy-efficient
LED lamps, ‘watt-for-watt’ are the the most energy efficient form of lighting, meaning that with only a fraction of energy they can produce more lumens-per-watt that the equivalent incandescent lamp.

  • Less heat, more light
Traditional lamps lose nearly 95% of energy in producing heat, while LED’s only waste around 5%.

  • Safer and Greener
LED lamps don’t contain pollutants like mercury, lead or glass found on any other types of bulbs and are therefore safer and can be recycled, producing less waste as a result.

Maintenance

The maintenance of your lighting and floodlighting is crucial for the long term life of a lighting scheme. By servicing the system once a year it will increase its effectiveness and life. By calculating the amount of hours of annual use, we can advise a schedule for a lamp replacement service.

Floodlighting servicing will include:

  • Cleaning floodlight glass
  • Checking torque settings of nuts and bolts
  • Re-alignment of floodlights
  • Changing lamps when required
  • Checking cable connections
  • Checking for water ingress
  • Changing control gear when required
  • Periodic electrical condition reports

Internal sports centre lighting service will include:

  • Cleaning of luminaire
  • Changing lamps when required
  • Changing control gear when required
  • Checking cable connections
  • Checking fixings are secure
  • Periodic electrical condition reports (every five years)

All lighting requires maintenance on a regular basis to prevent failure or damage. Regularly changing lamps can prevent damage to the control gear providing longer luminaire life. A planned maintenance scheme will help prevent failure and disruption to your work.
